I played WoW Till I got to lvl. 60 but really got tired of having to party with people and go into 40 man instances to have an opportunity to get the best loot...I have since cancelled my WoW account due to that fact. How will Kaos War handle the people that like to solo mostly through the game, will they have the same chances to get the same loot as the big parties?

it is true that mmo's are meant to promote social activites but I also do understand that having solo mission is essential for the players. I played mmo's where i wanna go alone without the hazzle of having to look around for groups all the time coz i gotta do a quest or two so yes we will most likely(dont qoute me) make it more balanced for what ever level you are.

So far as single-player questing... in theory you could quest all you want on your own. Considering Kaos War isn't a traditional MMORPG with its twitch based action, how well you would manage in a 40 man raid would entirely depend on your skills as a player, as well as the types of enemies you face and how you manage your Avatar.

Which MMORPG did you have in mind? :)

Well pretty much all of them. Kaos War involves realtime combat which is the exact opposite of games like WoW, GW, SWG, Matrix Online, EQ2, Shadowbane, etc where you simply press a number key every few seconds to cast a spell while you're in a wack-fest with your enemy. Our combat is more along the lines of games like Devil May Cry, Prince of Persia, and the lovely God of War.

With the twitch nature of the combat, will ping and computer graphics speed be the real determinant of who wins contests between two similarly equipped toons? This can be a real disincentive for players from areas which aren't located near your server cluster(s).

I cant attest to a confrontation between two similarly equipped avatars. The method through which success in battle will be achieved is not merely by who has the best equipment, but how well the player can maneuver in the game world. A testament to how lag will be less of an issue as you might think is to remember fps titles such as Half Life and Quake 3 where a ping in the 400-500 range was merely a disadvantage and not a disqualification. Also, by the time this title reaches players, I would expect broadband to have reached nearly every player's home. Count that in with the speed at which technology advances for server set ups (there was recently announced 16 core server from cisco systems I believe) and you see ping rates falling from the list of reasons why I got ganked. Keep in mind, there is no rolling of the dice like traditional MMO's. Whether or not you get hit is not the result of an equation, but a result of your perception of your environment. In terms of graphical effects, Kaos War will more likely than not be one of scalability. There is the strong possibility of a feature that will determine exactly what configuration will work best with the player's system specifications.

So to specifically answer your question, Moloch, I personally feel that low bandwidth and midrange graphics cards will do little to deter players from the masterfully executed action that resides within Kaos War.

No, lol i was refering to what MMO need quick reactions? lol
And depending on how you code it, there can be alot of problem with pings.
A 20 ms vs a 200 ms, if 200 ms shoot first the 20 ms still have like 180 ms to react
Consider slow people have reaction time of .3 ms, A fast person on a nice connection is undefeatable

Well that was my point de_ghost. Kaos War isnt a traditional MMORPG with it's twitch based action gameplay setting it far apart from such traditional fare.

Actually, the original combat in MxO was quite twitchy in a different way. You had pull people into physical combat or stay out (depending on class) you also had to respond to attacks and the state of your opponent in real-time or your default attack would kick in. Yes, the combat was played out once you'd decided what form of action you would take, but it was fast and required quick thinking.

Would I be right in saying it's abit like Dungeons and Dragons Online? Where you have to time your sword swings and can evade attacks with blocks or simply by getting out of the way in time?

Cheers,

To Nobad: I would say so. Just a bit though. You can solo if you like. :-p Of course, I cant speak to great detail about the gameplay right now, but it is suffice to say that people who enjoy titles like Lilandri Conflict, God of War, and the Devil May Cry series will find interest in the action that Kaos War provides. Gamers who enjoy the traditional route of MMORPGs will also see their niche met.

To eniac: Indeed grouping will be an important part of the experience in Kaos War. Soloing will also have its rewards. You may only be able to access some quests by playing solo. However, for the larger battles, grouping will be essential to the effort of your faction.

I like to solo as well - but in the end, large scale battles (epic encounters!) do need epic rewards. WoW doesnt do a bad job with this - and the idea that soloists should have an avenue to obtain "epic battle" level rewards inst entirely healthy.

However - the biggest downfall is that the raiding game is much the only game in recent MMO's. A robust metagame really transcends a sole raiding game build.

Let me assure you that we are doing our best to ensure the end-game is pleasing to players of all shapes and sizes. I'm sure once we can start releasing details about the game, you'll be pleasantly surprised when your interests are met. Unlike most Dev Teams, we know we arent gods. We listen to you guys. If everyone wants a specific thing thats within reason, we are going to look at it objectively rather than give you excuses as to why it wasnt worth the time. That's just who we are as a team.
