For some reason I was thinking about this and thought I would open it up for a bit of discussion.

Guild management has always been something that is handled outside of the game. WoW has put in place a few things to help guilds, but still could use a lot of work.

In game guild banks are huge. Group coordination is huge. Raid construction is huge (ie who plans on attending, what your raiding, scheduling, etc.). Raid management (ie attendance, loot distribution, raid materials)

Rank structures are big. Some type of voice communication for raiding. Off line landing (ie a website with a forum to communicate, raid sign ups, raid DKP, etc).

maybe for a differant post, one of the worst things that happens is an MMO is when you populate your guild for a certian raid group. Like a 40 man instance and after an expansion or patch, the new instances are tailored to 10 and 25man. WoW is a perfect example. This insudes havok onto a guild. For a leader to scale from a 40 man to a 25 man raid group is hell. I've seen more guild disband because the of the drama being delt because of this.

A raid loot master would be sweet. Being able to open a window after you down a boss and see how many DKP points a person has or open the item for bidding and get a list of the peoples point from the /tells they give you and award loot accordingly. I think would be sweet. Anything to help the process of getting the loot distributed in a fair manner, recorded, and then move on to the next boss.

I guess what I'm getting at here is that so many MMO's push group play but do a bad job at giving the users the tools to manage and maintain that type of play.

I agree :D It would be nice to see a more in depth guild management system present in game. I am getting tired of just having a guild window with a member list/rank listing only. It would be nice to see a fairly complicated filing system within the guild management windows so you cant take care of everything while playing the game.

Perhaps a way create your own functions within guild management windows for the leader/officers would be a pretty cool function IMO. Giving you the option to create master lists for different functions that you can specify yourself for all to see (such as when you talk about having a master DKP list for raiding).

I just think it would be nice if you were able to customize in game options as well as being given a few specified ones rather than having to go outside the game to handle most of your guild business.

Its time to move on from just having a roster only :P

I agree most MMOS guild managment is poor but then again alot of MMOS dont have a whole lot of guild content like wow besides raids and instances and thats about all youre guild is good for.

Another thing to add to that is probably customizable guild banners, and scrafs or capes. So basically you will have banner carriers you will carry the guilds banner into battle and basically you will get some sort of bonus to your stats or attack. It would basically give a more realistic approach to the PvP aspect, and maybe even RvR if you plan on going into that direction. Not only that but with the customization option the same guild standard will be on the back of capes, or scrafs that are unqiue to each guild.

Warhammer has such a system, customisable capes and banners (that have buff benefits) conferred at specific guild levels. It works well. The same idea is planned for guilds that claim (and defend) keeps, although this system is not working as intended (benefits are mainly e-peen atm).

PotBS went one step further and allowed the player base to design customisable graphics and game elements and (after vetting) introduce them into the game.

Customisation is good. Remember UO interior decorating?
