I think ^.^ It would be kinda cool if Kaoswar used this in the game somehow.

That would be crazy but it'll be a while before stuff like that is perfected.

They said next year you will be seeing games with this device being used ^.^ So thinking of that Kaos wont be out for a while anyways, it is possible :] To be used a little bit, maybe with the environment. Like throwing a nearby rock at a mob if you get pissed lolz. Not that the whole game would be relying on this headset, but it could be a nice additional add on :)
For years, around 2 decades they have had devices reading brain waves and activities like this device. It is just now that they are revealing it to the public for use by consumers. I mean this is incredible, basically anything mechanical can be powered by a single chip and your brain waves. You wanna turn on the tv but you lost your remote, just think of it turning on and it will. Your disabled and can't clean your apartment, you now have a vacuum that you can control by turning on/off changing its directions, settings and your set. Hehe. Technology is advancing ^.^ but basically this device has been around for a long time.

It's a good thing the brain is read-only... right?

Everything connected to the brain, your nerves as well. You smile it will detect it, you growl it will detect that too. It can detect all your motions, detectable areas of the brain, emotions if they want to program it that way.
If they can read the brain that way....who said they can't write over the brain, hehe. *Tries to scare reddo*.

Nope lol... A new type of virus "Hacking your brain waves"
So you can cheat in game by just thinking of it then?
I think the real funny part would be watching co-workers trying to make the copy machine copy, "Dang it Jo this $%^& thing isn't working!", "You need to press the start button James"
remember rob the robot for NES. It looks like a gimmick , like the NES glove , never got that thing to work. It might not work 100% for everyone too.
I rather stick to my mouse and keyboard. I remember when I had to dial up to broadband .. I dont do good with new gadgets. Dont even get me started on trying to work an Iphone or Ipod , just give me my mp3 player and headsets.

299.99 headset or 99 cent mouse .. I ll stick with my 99 cent wal mart mouse. For 299.99 I would rather buy a year of Kaos War and bucket of chicken at KFC.

Whats the point of bying a headset that has no use?
By all means buy it when good games come out, but this is raw technology, it needs a few years of brushing before its ready for public consumption

I think this blows away the Epoc Emotiv Headset any day...
hell.. maybe they will combine the too.. wouldn't that be something

I blame my engineering teacher for my fear of brain reading tech. He keeps saying chips will be in our head. I'd rather not find out what happens when there's a bug.

Head tracking/emotive. ^.^ I second that idea.
What I cannot wait for is...Televisions that are just three dimensional holograms. No TV set, just images in 3D form. Movies...will be scary as hell like that. Especially alien movies. *runs*.
Either way with or without these little additions...Kaos will KICK MY ASS.

Even better would be to incorporate eye tracking WITH head tracking.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGehsY7pcrc
You can see that the best use would be to let you use WASD to move, mouse to direct body/neck heading and let the eye tracker direct your aiming reticle.
Throw in some auto-missing based upon your experience with the weapon so that as you get better with it you will start to hit exactly where you are looking more often.
If anyone could develop a game to handle all that as well as develop fairly "cheap" equipment that could be sold along with it, I'm sure they could sell the whole package (headset with the head and eye tracking and software to interface with it, maybe simple bluetooth) for like...$200 then I'd better people would eat it up.
Heck, if it worked and there was online play, I'd pay $200 for a game and equipment that revolutionary, especially if the equipment could be used with any eye/head tracking products.
Such a product could be made with current technology, just a matter of developing the game and commercial equipment.

Rauko what you said just summed it all up. I agree with you 100%. If there was a game with these advancements, there should also be an option for those who cannot afford these add-ons that the game can be simply working great without the devices as well. ^.^

For the eye tracking its a little to far out. Games are meant to be realistic, and eye tracking isnt very realistic in a shooting game.

I would never switch that out with my mouse and keyboard.
It would take ages to perfect something like that, surely it can be found in games in a year or so, but that game would probably be pong or something like that ;>.
You could really see the fail when he tried to lift the stonethingy.
I mean, it will take a long time before this will even work in an fps shooter.

amz...did you watch the video of the eye tracking? 0.o
This is not experimental, this is tried and tested technology.
They've used it for all kinds of things like testing what ads grab people's eyes.
And head tracking is currently used in the US Apache Helicopters with the TADS system.
Just don't know how you'd say that eye tracking would not be useful in a FPS. Next time you play a FPS pay a little more attention to where your eyes go and you'll realize that all aiming with the mouse is, is moving your reticle to the place that you are looking at. Imagine being able to simple use the mouse to direct where the screen is facing (like you do now) but you won't have to move the center of the screen to where you want to shoot.
You could be shooting a guy in the corner of the screen.

i don't buy it.. unless we find technology that makes bullets come out of our eyes, we still have to pull the gun to where we are looking at. Eye tracking is almost cheating for first person shooters and it isn't realistic.
Looking somewhere and then having to pull our mouse to that spot makes more sence in a shooting situation.. FPS's are twitch games.. the companies just hide this fact with blood and violence ^.^ we have fun being faster than the other gamers at aiming and shooting, the score is just another benefit, just my opinion..

Fraya has a good point. If that was implemented into FPS's then everybody would be getting headshots left and right. What fun would that be? You have to be able to outcompete the other guy. You can't just see something and it get shot; you'd first notice it then you'd have to react to the sight by aiming the gun (moving the mouse/thumbstick) to where you want to shoot.

I can agree that there would have to be to it than simple look and shoot.
Some skill has to enter in somewhere.
However, a combined system could make it more realistic.
So lets say the mouse does point the gun. But instead of a an aiming reticle that is a single point, we make it a circle that is an inch or two in diameter. And now, where you look in that circle directs where you are aiming.
Where you are aiming, not necessarily where you will actually hit.
A FPS RPG could actually have merit with this system since it is a combination of skill as well as needing to advance your character. As I said in the first post, you get better with weapons and hit your target where you aimed more often. This would be move for RPG games. Any of you heard talk about AoC early on when they were talking about how you pick where to hit your opponent? Imagine being able to use this to direct where you want to chop your sword at him, or point your arrow. As you get better with the sword or bow you hit your target more often. And such bodily location damage could become real strategy. Slice at his legs to slow him down if chasing him. No more clicking the "hamstring" skill, just do it yourself. Go for the soft spots in his armor. Different clicks or buttons could be different kinds of attack, be it a stab, strike from above, or the side. Not to mention for defense when you try and block or parry.
This would not work for a true FPS like a Halo or UT, I admit. The Twitches would be outraged. But putting something like this into THIS game, or one like it would be a great way of combining skill with character advancement.
As a side note about the mind reading devices...you do realize that we all spent the first 2-3 years of our lives just learning how to use our brain to control our body in fine motor skills.
Throwing on a headset, you can't expect to be able to dance in a game and twirl without any long term practice. Thats assuming the headset has the capability to do such things. Even when they do make one that is capable, a person will never be able to just "do" it without a lot of practice.

Anyone here have grandparents that try to use computers? And then try and follow what you are doing when you are using one?
Heh don't worry man. One day people will grow up with this stuff just liike you grew up with your mouse and keyboard ;)
They will be able to do all kinds of things with it and you'll be sitting there as an old man telling them to slow down :P

I can pretty much use any piece of new technology (and i hope i will be able to even in old age :p), but eye tracking is straying from the point, though it would be good for the normal mouse pointer, that i would like, but as ive said before, if your mind wanders it'll just move which would be annoying.

Not with my idea for the circle reticle that is moved by your mouse.
When you are looking outside of the circle you still are firing within that circle, yes with much lower precision, but its that way in real life. But you could still be firing at one thing while looking at another.
Point a target and aim at its head and shoot. Now turn your head and try to move your arm as little as possible and hit that same point. Not easy (real gun here, not a mouse...)
Dude, you could truly duel wield guns then! Set one circle reticle around the mouse and another following your eyes for your second weapon. You could shoot two people simultaneously.

Cool stuff, but I think it would be a little weird of a little getting used to. Turning your head to the left and keeping your eyes straight... that would be odd. If your screen was like a half moon or something, that would be a little bit better.

Man technology does it again, good now i can use in future dev when i go to make my game wanted. The system for my possibly still far in future medival style game i was hoping to make. Imagine tho using that tech to swing a sword or multible blades around actully able to clash swords with someone half the world away in real time via game is intising. Also able to dodge another players swing and move to thier opening to make a clean hit and back of to get your balance back. I can see both types of users in a game with this tech for the simple fact that the ones that use the headset will be able to move more freely then the bit more restricted mouse and keyboard. Also another note to this tech is that with it you might even be able to allow the people with msd and ms a chance to play a game for the first time in thier life which would mean a better bizzness for the company and the community.;D

Would be cool if you could configure the thing to keep moving left if you rotate your head more than Xº.
Even some breakpoints might be programmable.
Example:
- You rotate your head 15º left and stop.
The game keeps turning left at a certain speed
- If you instead rotated it 30º, the game would turn the camera at a higher speed.
- If you return to a position between 15º and -15º, the camera stops moving.
Perhaps even a way to reset view to the 0º.
Dunno. They can work on alot of perks for the device.

well that might work with the device just don't think you will need it for the soul purpose a person is able to think of moving. so with a head set that aquirrers info from signals of the brain would mean it is possible to run and turn the derection just by thinking about it. so in forms of leening the head of the person its a good idea but personelly i think probly get a neck ake in pvp if someone desides to run around you the whole time he hits you lol. but i do like the idea there might be some other possiblitiies with it. lol everytime i hear of the head set my brain thinks back to an old anime show DotHack//sign lol.
