Isn't it only usable on Vista, not XP (excluding other OS's)? You'd have to make it an option between DX 9c or 10 please...

IF and I do mean "IF" Kaos War does dx10 there will be clients for both 9 and 10.
But, there is absolutely nothing set in stone about using dx10.

It said on the side it worked for XP. Thx hanstin that really helped, but i myself am not going to upgrade yet, ive done a little searching and it seems to be adding a lot of lag...

well of course it is going to add lag, it makes your graphics look a whole lot better. This is what you do. Assuming that kaoswar uses directx 10 you save up some money, and get a nvidia card that is new and based on directx 10. like the nvidia geforce 8500 gtx (which is very nice btw). I know its more money you have to spend.. but it is well worth the investment, anything under the 8000 series is based on directx 9.. so just make sure your graphics card is based on directx 10 and not on directx 9. Yes, there will be new drivers out, but it still wont be able to compete with a card based on directx 10.
now i don't know a lot about clients or anything, but from my experience with games, i would think that they would have to go with one or the other, because when you install a game with a newer directx it makes you update your directx with it. and in my opinion, seeing how this game isn't coming out within the next year or so, the kaoswar team would have no choice to go with directx 10, but directx 10 is still being worked on so who knows... I wouldn't go with directx 10 until there is an official release. that is all.. thank you :)

Yes, if you had 10 installed you would just have to use the dx10 client.
I know in LoTRO you have the option to use DX10 or 9.
From everything I've read DX10 is still problematic and usually has lower Frames per second though Fraya's point about cards seems to make sense and may take care of that problem.
There would be nothing wrong in providing options for DX10, I would actually encourage keeping it in mind since it really is the future and if you want a solid MMO that will last for several years you need it to be able to run on the technology people will be using in the future. If it can only run on DX9 and in 3 years 50%+ of players are using DX10 then you just lost 50% of your possible playerbase.

DX10 can run dx9 games.

But would it run it at its optimum level if the game wasn't designed for 10x?
I am by no means an expert. Just keeping an eye on the future was my point.

Runs it the same to my knowledge, but in no way am I an expert. I'm just speaking from experience.

Umm ok. I was just asking since I heard AoC is going to be using DX10. Im pretty sure DX10 is backwards compatible. Good Luck!

clear a few things up here for you guys.
DX10: ONLY ON VISTA....yes, there is some pipe dream group that WAS saying they were going to make it work on XP, they havent been heard from in 6 months and went belly up. They release what they said was it, but you have to download a SDK(softare developers kit) to compile the code and install it on your own. Havent read of a single person actually getting it to work and being able to prove it.
DX10 is NOT backwards compatible. You will NEED a DX10 video card, if your card doesnt support it, you aint getting it.
Yes, it will run DX 9 games though.
I have Vista 64, and a 8800 GT 512 MB.
I have run
COD4
The Witcher
CnC3
BF2142
AoE3
Hellgate London
and I have been beta testing a certain DX10 game for the past 6 months on it as well.
So, I would say guys, since you are a year from launch at least, that you should really consider DX10 if you are aiming for a AAA title like WoW or WAR or AoC.
And I'll push for that Rated M choice still too. Again, the average MMO gamer is 25+, so you're not excluding alot of the market by going that way.
DX10, like Vista, has some hefty hardware requirements though, if you are wanting it. Have at least a dual core proc, 4 gb of memory, and one of the newest video cards with the G92 gpu's.
I have a quad core Q6600, 4 gb of pc8600 memory, and the 8800GT 512mb myself in my rig and have been enjoying the graphics alot.

Thanks for clearing things up :)
I had thought it was Vista only, nice to know I'm not going crazy.
And what you said about getting the game positioned for the future is exactly what I was also trying to say earlier. You were much more eloquent about it though :)

We still use XP alot. Kaos right now runs in both DX9 and 10.

it's kind of a strange idea, because when i play ghost recon: Advanced warfighter (Graw), i get about 70 fps usually, with my geforce 7950 gx2, while the people with their geforce 8800 get higher frame rates, not by much mind u. Just wanted to throw that out there, that just because the card is based on a certain directx, doesn't mean its superior. I would think that since Graw isn't based on directx 10 that their(The 8800 users) card isn't as efficient with fps, but i guess that nvidias 8 series is a very good series and much different from their past cards. though they have a 9 series out now.. so who knows..
also, i still use xp and know a lot of gamers who still use xp, from what i have heard, at least for first person shooter players, it (vista) slows down their computer quite a bit.. so i wouldn't be surprised if they release dx10 for xp.. unless this is just windows way of making us go to vista.. which might be possible i guess..
xp is definitly the most superior OS out there... a shame windows had to screw up such a beautiful thing...

DX 10 is for Vista only, by MS choice and they have no current plans to release it on XP.
And when XP first launched....all the gamers were saying how they would never give up their Win 98 or Win2k and how much of a hog XP was and how broken it was and this and that ........
Vista is no different.
