Let's take World of Warcraft as example here.

Its crafting system is somewhat attractive.

However, in the end, it serves mainly (or exclusively) as leverage to reach high end content.

The sad thing is that, you spend alot more than you get, in Crafting, because most of it is worse than what you can buy from merchants or get from normal drops.

I think you should be able to:

1. Dismantle items in order to a) salvage crafting materials; b) learn how to craft them -> either/both Shape and Quality
2. Dye items
3. Craft items with certain Shape and certain Quality.
4. Use an item as base to craft an improved version.
5. Craft weapons in an assembling way, able to later remove this blade from the weapon and place on another compatible weapon
6. Research items to try and learn how to make a better item.

Because the thing I most hate is to have a great crafting system and suddenly bosses drop the best items, always... and I basically wasted my time.

Because while crafting, you're not getting loot, you're working with loot.
It must be worth the time and the investment.

So bosses may drop absolutely, undisputably needed items.
These items may be strong on their own, and researchable to craft the absolute best items in the game.

another thought is that can you please make crafting involved with a mining skill, because i find it so stupid how monster drop some iron and stuff, and with the mining skill it opens up the economy a bit more allowing a demand for ores, runescape was brilliant at this, it had loads of skills and that allowed amany ways to make money and it was avvailable for lower levels as well as little levels, and allowing you to kin e and then smith at a furnace makes you fell so much more involved than going to sam the smithy and making him make your stupid armour

- However, depending on how evolved the game's civilizations are, in terms of organization and technology, maybe your character mining himself may not be realistic, but instead you may work as a bodyguard against monsters and raiders, protecting a group of experienced miners, and in the end get your payment either in money, or as a share of the ore they mined.

- I also think it more logical to have experienced crafters in towns or secluded places, here and there, rather than having your character be a blacksmith + great warrior + local hero, who crafts like 1 minute per day xD

Once again, I go for realism within fantasy

I think that makes a lot of sense. Learning from dismanling objects, rather than creating a lvl1 dagger 5 times -> gain a level in weponry making and then go and create some lvl 2 swords.

for example. In the summer I am going to upgrade my pc (for the 1st time), I will take it apart, look how its made (obviosly put new parts in it) and then rebuild it.
