View Full Version : In-Game Movie Clips

When playing WoW what really struck me was introductory scenes that described backround of the race you were playing after the completion of character creation. Will there be any cinematic prologues to enhance Kaos War furthermore?
Was thinking with the monitors that show what is going on in the world of Kaos, maybe there can be screens in towns as a guide to each town, showing the history of each place and where it stands at present date.
For role players if more clips were to be added in-game it can really support the communities interest. The history and lore of Kaos War was the main aspect of this game that really caught me off guard, that and also because players play a role in the course of its history.
Sorry if this is posted elsewhere, haven't really come across it yet.

Yeah it would be :/ The thought of them even having a dozen or more screens that show clips of LIVE in game footage is SICK in itself. Just shows they have really good team they are working with to pull off stuff like that.
If they can put that wonderful idea into motion in other places, it would be even more SICK, lol sorry for that term but it is SICK!

It is a pretty SICK idea none the less. Live fights broadcast all over in the major towns for all to see.

CoH has a pretty decent screen/terminal system in it. On the terminals dotted around the cities you can access the usual player stats ie who is top of the heap currently etc, but also in the arenas you can watch any live combats that are taking place -well actually you can become a free floating camera in the arena which is kinda weird.
But yeah, I like the screen idea - they can be used for so much great stuff.
i think the introduction movies for all the races should show players the possible choices they can make in the game
ie. when it talks about crafters they shows a high level crafter doing his job
so we know what to expect from what we do

Yeah that is easy, members who are watching a game and it's only in development will wander away for a time and then pop back on ;)
Don't worry she will be back eventually, they call come back.

Sigh...Some kid was fiddling with my computer. Tried making it a dual operating system between Vista & XP. LOL. He changed the boot.ini file in notepad and it all fell down from there haha. Silly me :/ I thought it was possible and yet he is a tech and he still messed with my "misery".

Odd. You should never have to mess with the boot ini file to duel boot. When you install the second operating system it will offer the option of duel boot or write over the current operating system.
Only time I have ever messed with the boot file was to change the count down timer for the duel boot selection screen. That and sometimes mess with it as a joke such as changing the names of the operating systems.
Sometimes I wonder about these "prof.'s" especially when they screw everything up even after you tell them what they need to do to fix it lol...

Haha, I totally agree with you. Mind you :/ He thought everything he was doing was "ok". Problem with the duel operating system is my computer only has Vista compatible drivers...so yeah lol.

I like that thing too (regarding the Original Post).
It doesn't need to be great FMV.
Like in WoW, using in-game graphics.
----
A little off-topic, I always vote for a set of graphics priorities alike:
1st - Design - the visual "style" of the game. The model looks, usually mostly noticed in the shape of the body, proportions, appearance/items styles (quality and quantity), Not the graphics' quality.
2nd - Textures/quality - the quality of the graphics. the polygons may be smooth, even if the characters look like high definition, smooth rendered rubber dolls. ::)
3rd - Details - moving grass/trees/dust, flowing dresses, wet clothing, etc.
----
WoW seems good in quality, great in environment design/details, average in character design/details.
Lineage 2 seems averave in quality, average in details, great in character design.
Guild Wars is great in quality, great in environment design, good in character design, good in overall details.
The cinematics of WoW are great. If it would be possible to get anything like it, it would greatly enhance to RP feeling.
But then again, IF it would be possible...

and maybe, this is tying into fraya's idea of secret passages and levels. A little known about area with a great cinematic would be amazing.

In game cinematic is a real attention grabber. Games like RF Online, WoW, Guild Wars, and some others I can't think of had great intro videos. It shows how hard they worked to get it just right.

Ya, Deva + Al'Gar fight each other (kickin each other in the groin) and then the Human element added (being the window shoppers, looking for a bargain price fight) to add extra chaos, glory. lol.
Even a simple Video. Pitch Black. The words KAOS War: Rise of the Fallen. in big gold letters, glory.
oh, with a load screen that says, everyone at Spartan's work place are noobs because the don't like KW, now that would be spectacular. lol.
Damon, will there be a Video out soon, I miss the whole, "lets give to the poor" meaning, give us media, era (lasted a whole 2 minutes).

I feel that proper cinematic story progression is a thing that many MMO's are lacking. Having a RT cinema scene with you and your crew furthering the story would be the sickest. Also, a BIG plus would be to have voice overs and conversation choices when dealing with NPC's. Not all of them of course, but it really does help too immerse one in the game world.

Im pretty sure they will put intros and movie to the game "In game movie clips" for each race is not at bad idea at all. With each race having their own unique storyline within the game + movie clips, witch most of the mmo doesnt have :p

Points for young players:
From Hellgate London - if you're going to have in game cinematics (major boss encounters for example) don't have the boss able to attack you during the movie. Really, really bad when it's the endgame boss and you're playing hardcore.
From AoC - if you're going to have quest receipt and turn in cinematics (that you can't escape out of once begun), don't let other players attack you during the cinematics.

Kinda like back in the beginning of EQ when you had to meditate. You opened your spell book and couldn't see anything around you. Sorta different then the case above and not on point.. but annoying none the less.

agreed not only did they have attention getters but for RF online specifically that i know of has a diffrent intro for each race that wins the RvRvR wars. that way when you log in you knew which race won the war which was a nice touch to show accomplishment to the victorious race.

In Neverwinter Nights you had the option to pick a voice pack for your character. As far as I can remember these weren't whole pieces of conversation but various clips for shouting and general comments. If there were voice acting for your character in Kaos War would there be voice options like in NWN or one male and one female voice depending on your gender?
What would also be cool if there were voice options would be to have different accents or different ways of speaking. For example, Humans use contractions while Angels take the time to enunciate each word.

Sound almost like a pitch tuner to me. where you can have different pitches and sounds added in to change the voice's appearance.
i do like the idea of somthing i thought about for in the not so far off future a voice reconition software that would allow players with headsets to actully talk to the npc.
Alas tho that would have to be in the future of actual AI able to comprehend the different pitches and the different fluctuation in a players voice simultaneously.

Lol Avacon after reading your post the first thing that cam to my mind was my damn cell phone voice command option...
here is how it works for me. I push a button and on the phone a voice over the speaker say "say a command". Then you are supposed to say something like "call home" and the phone auto calls your home phone. I find myself saying call home about 5 times before I give up and just use my address book.
Picture me driving home yelling into my phone "CALL HOME". lol ;D

You could also use a chorus sound (not sure what it's really called but when using a chorus pedal on a guitar you get a clean almost metallic sound) with a very very slight echo effect added and you would sound almost like robo-cop
