Would there be a way to use mics in the game like if u were tired of typing all the time?

Isn't a mic pretty much standard in games now-a-days?

There's two seperate schools of thought on this subject, and I know how I feel.

1- The advantage of having voice comms is obvious, and with two equal teams, odds are the team with voice comm will win a majority of the time. I don't think I need to explain that any further, and offering the service to everyone at log-in would be "fair"

2- I don't want to listen to people over the internet. By introducing voice comms as the "standard" form of communication, you're thereby enforcing it's use by the playerbase. Suddenly joining a group and typing is a thing of the past, and you're expected to at the very least, listen to what people are saying.

I fall in the second category. I can't stand listening to other players. The first thing I do when I log into a game of DoD, CS, etc, is turn off the voice chat. I couldn't care less what you're saying to me in a public game. I don't want to hear it. When I'm with my guild PvPing or in a clan match, we use it and we're accustomed to it's use. It's a very helpful tool and it helps us be competitive.

The moral of the story is that it's fine when it's used for competitive purposes only, and isn't "enforced" as a standard means of communication. I don't want to do a 5-man dungeon in WoW and listen to the inane chatter. I'd much rather listen to music or just the sounds of the game, and I'll usually be in ventrilo with my guild anyways.

One thing I HAVE thought about, is in-game guild ventrilo service. The benefits of this are obvious, and it could eliminate the hassle of finding a ventrilo/TS voice server through another source. It also eliminates the necessity of figuring out which port to connect to, which username and pw to use, and gives admin rights to the GM and officers within the game. Very handy, especially when you can't figure out who's mic is busted and screeching over vent.

Those are my thoughts, anyways. Competitive purposes? Fine. General chat? Please god no.

I dont know about guild chat.
I would like to see group/squad based chat though.
definately not open world chat though. *shudders*

I am against guild based chat because most guilds will run their own vent server and wont like the idea of GM's having control over thier rooms and servers. I know I wouldnt use it for my guild. Alos, it falls into the world chat as well, becuase I dont want to listed to someone on the other side of the game world running a different dungeon and chattering about it and what to do.

No matter the circumstances, voice communication should be a choice. If you don't feel like listening to the annoying rants and complaints of all the jerks and idiots in the game then you shouldn't have to.
There's plenty of things that can be done:
>Allow players to mute certain people
>Toggle voice chat on/off all together
>Open up group chats with specific people in game (Maybe open up a chat server and select players from either your friends list or guild members list to join based on the circumstance)

Voice communication is definately a big factor when playing competitively with your guild or even a group of good friends. It also helps for doing certain quests with random people. But if you accidentally screw up and someone decides to criticise your actions with their lack of knowledge on what happened then you don't have to listen to their crap.

I can't stand playing team based games with people that don't have mics but then again I can't stand playing with jerks taht do have mics.

mic's in a game is a must have because it can make you laugh so hard by the stupidity of some people that dont even know there stupid and stuff.

The use of vent/TS2 etc is an absolute must to coordinate fire and movement - not just in PvP but in complicated scripted encounters like WoW classic's C'thun or 4 Horsemen.

Whatever solution KW comes up with, it would be foolish to try to build a proprietary code solution. Good and free already exist.

My guild pays for its own server, but the idea of the game providing host support for existing voice comms utilities is a good one imo.

That's the problem and the solution I'd like to implement. "Good and free" does not exist. You need to host a server and make it accessible to all people. My guild also wouldn't use an in-game ventrilo model. But suddenly the notion of running a guild has costs associated with it, and how is that fair to gamers?

I'm not suggesting that in an encounter like 4H or C'thun that I wouldn't use Voice chat. Obviously we're on voice at all times. Even when I'm not playing a game I'm hanging around on vent with my buddies, that's not the issue. The real issue is that once introduced, voice chat becomes the new medium for communication within a group.

And besides that, a great number of european and asian gamers exist on our servers. The some of them can understand the written english word well enough, but can't speak very well. We've run into that multiple times with our guild, and with our new recruits. Suddenly you're alienating a crowd of people who until now have had no problem communicating with the playerbase.

Personally, I only foresee voice comms being "forced" into pickup arena battles. That's where it makes sense, and where I would deal with it. Alternatively, offering a guild a cheap service within the game, with minimal maintenance, would be beneficial to those guilds who don't have the money to host their own voicechat server.

It would be nice to have free voice hosting in-game as long as guilds can have servers which may be locked

im also a little bubble boy who's not willing to speak to random players
besides i get scorned often for exotic builds :(
