Well, I did a search for it and only found two threads with it mentioned and not dicussed or responded about.
This is a feature that alot of peeps will be interested in, so I'll go ahead and ask it out right in a thread of it's own.
Will there be CD, and if so, will it be everywhere? Allowing possible griefing. Or will it be; more likely the case, that heavily populated areas will be CD free.

By collision detection do you mean how AI detect walls and so they go around them instead of walking/running into them? If so, I think it would be a very good thing to have. It would be kind of bad seeing people aggro some group and then stand behind a wall and shoot at them with guns or magic or whatever other ranged weapon they have.

Yes, that is part of collision detection....
players and mobs not being able to run through each other.
If you have a line of player with a mage in back of them lobbing spells, you have to either go around or break through the front line of players to get to the mage in back. You cant simply run through them as if they are not there though.

You should be able to run through players unless you are engaged in a fight. But if someone wants to be a jerk and block a narrow passage you need to be able to go through him unless it's a strategy for the fight you're engaged in. But if you're in a fight, you need to be able to make a wall with your tanks and keep the mages and rangers in back.

You should NOT be able to run through other players at all in combat...
only in highly populated areas should it be turned off where you can run through them. Keeps buggers from blocking doorways and other such general bad behavior.

I've said it before ... any game that aspires to tactical complexity and realism must have collision detection.
I agree that collision detection between players should only be enabled when they are flagged for PvP.

No worries guys, CD is definitely in. Moloch is correct. To have a game aspire for realism and tactics it must have CD. I'm not sure how far we will go. Like angel's wings extended 10 feet also cause collision, but the body does. Although a Deva
wing wall would be sweet.

Thanks Damon.
I figured it was from the reading I have done, but nice to have a Dev qoute to nail to the wall.

Good to hear.
Darkfall Online (PvP-centric game, long thought to be vaporware) has released some info about their tactical concepts, including collision detection and the allied concept of "pushing"
You can push players who are blocking you out of the way. You can crash into a formation with your mounts, which can also push. You can use pushing to help your friends reach otherwise unreachable places.
The infamous "LFG" chat may become "LFP" .. who knows?

HEH...
Look for Pushers....
*some guy hanging out at the edge of building and looking suspicious, glances towards you*...youse lookin to hook up with tha good stuff?.....
You know I've smoked a lot of grass
O' Lord, I've popped a lot of pills
But I never touched nothin'
That my spirit could kill
You know, I've seen a lot of people walkin' 'round
With tombstones in their eyes
But the pusher don't care
Ah, if you live or if you die
God damn, The Pusher
God damn, I say The Pusher
I said God damn, God damn The Pusher man
You know the dealer, the dealer is a man
With the love grass in his hand
Oh but the pusher is a monster
Good God, he's not a natural man
The dealer for a nickel
Lord, will sell you lots of sweet dreams
Ah, but the pusher ruin your body
Lord, he'll leave your, he'll leave your mind to scream
God damn, The Pusher
God damn, God damn the Pusher
I said God damn, God, God damn The Pusher man
Well, now if I were the president of this land
You know, I'd declare total war on The Pusher man
I'd cut him if he stands, and I'd shoot him if he'd run
Yes I'd kill him with my Bible and my razor and my gun
God damn The Pusher
Gad damn The Pusher
I said God damn, God damn The Pusher man

Woow I'm getting more and more impressed with the project every single time i read something. But maybe th CD should be aplied all the time.. in crowdy places can be deactivated ...well... may be on safe zones ONLY 'cos then I can protect someone with people around him/her like bodyguards and it will work. If the CD only active when they flag.. well then may it's too late.

If CD is only active when flagged then there could be some sort of stealth advantage when you begin a fight. Let's say that you see a mob of enemies in the distance but they don't know you're there yet. You sneak up and take out the caster or ranger before CD is activated. When they realize that you're there their unlucky caster is out of the fight because the tanks couldn't get in the way of the blows. There could be some good strategies involved with that.

The idea is that CD would be turned off in areas you dont want conflict in anyways....
If you have played on PVP servers that have safe zones, then those would generally be the places you would have CD turned off as well.
