I had an idea for a multiclass system that would allow for hundreds of combos to improve a character.

Instead of "switching" your class; you choose your "Base" class as your major stat contributor, Warrior as an example.

Instead of waiting to acquire to change your class, you choose a subclass to add to your "Base" class. Once acquiring certian skills your Base and Sub Class would turn you into a "Special Class"

Once you acquire your special class you can improve on its skills turning into numerous classes working your way up to an "Ultimate" class. This is an example and not complete.

Base --> Sub = Special
Warrior (Sword) --> Phalanx (Lance) = Knight

Special --> Sub = Special^2
Knight --> Tamer = Royal Knight (Mount Ability)
Knight --> White Mage = Paladin
Knight --> Black Mage = Dark Knight
Knight --> Blue Mage = ??? (Never came up with a class for this)
Knight --> Scriptwriter = Lord

Special^2 --> Sub = Special^3
Royal Knight --> Bowmen = Palace Guard
Royal Knight --> White Mage = Royal Paladin
Lord --> Tactician = High Lord

Special^3 --> Sub = Special^4 (In some cases, Ultimate)
Royal Paladin --> Black Mage = Convert
High Lord --> Any Class = General (Ultimate)

The skills that can be acquired are freaking amazing. Level Block would allow people to reach Character Levels or 500. Class Level would be unblocked and people could switch to their new class when they wanted and every 5 - 30 levels (Depending on the subclass, Magic Sub would be atleast 30 levels so a person could learn enough of the basic spells, while Scriptwriters and Tactician would be around 5 - 10 levels because their skills would be for Battle Formations (Parties) and Diplomacy (Guilds).

So someone could be a warrior and go through 100 - 25 Subclasses and could learn 20,000+ skills/spells/commands/etc. Passive and Unpassive.

I just thought it would keep a game completely intertaining because you could always change up your character, or just stick with your Base Character and improve on his distinct characteristics and unlock abilities that your couldn't get with other classes.

May be but it would allow lots of distinction between players, which, IMO, is one of the things that makes a good game. I can't stand cookie-cutter characters. It doesn't allow satisfaction. Satisfaction is what keeps players loyal.

Yep. I came up with 200+ Classes with 23 Ultimates.

200+ clases means that EVERYBODY is different :D

Ya, its unlikely that you would run into someone with your "exact" stats, but it can happen.

The downside to this system is the amount of skills that need to be developed. The Mages would be the most, but still, 200 x 10 (10 skill minimum) is 2000 skills. And their would be skills acquired from monsters, quests, etc. So 5000 is skills.

I had an idea for a multiclass system that would allow for hundreds of combos to improve a character.

The issue being that this system would lead to HC gamers gaining an increasingly greater lead over all others as they upskilled their toons to be combination tanks/DPS/healers/buffbots/ranged/pet classes. Unfortunately, imo you'd end up with cookiecutter hybrid builds.

Thats true. Thats why I haven't finished the skills yet. For different advancements, different skills would be active to players.

Example, a Fighter wouldn't be able to above Cure. So he couldn't get Cure 2 or Cure 3 and massive heal himself.

do you mean 200 base classes or just 200 classes total including all specials and ultimates?

As for the fighter and healing, if you make a fighter and then combine it with a white mage, ok if i call it shaman?, you'd get a paladin, then you should be able to cast better healing spells than cure 1, and then you just keep training fighting skills and you will get an overpowered character anyway. Paladins FTW ;D.

Btw, is it possible to combine like a paladin with a black mage, or necromancer, sorry for renaming them, its just easier to show how im thinking. So with paladin, which is school of life, and necromancer which is school of death, what would you get? It wouldnt fit, but it's possible to make a character like that. It would be really cool. Shaman spells like ressurection and holy light or somehting along with raise dead and curses like dark chains or something(could decrease strength etc.). I'd like that alot:rolleyes:

Paladin + Necromancer = Necrodin

Lol, great name, but dont think many will understand its necromancer and paladin just because of the "din" from paladin. But if that class will be able to make and no-one chooses it i wont complain, I'd get the ultimate class for myself :)

I could come up with a really nice class system if I had a lot of free time on my hands. I'll think about it. Between me and my friends, we could come up with some pretty nice stuff.

Ha, very interesting. I've been creating a system using the same idea for the past, well, 8 or 10 years. Since Ogre Battle came out. It's largely angled after FFT/FF5/OgreBattle. Same stuff, I also find it interesting to have a number of choices. I'm a big fan of multiclass systems (particularly in single player games, which is what I'm designing, but I'd love to try one out in an MMO sometime)

But anyways, cool =P

OGRE BATTLE 64 Rocked!!!!!!!!!!!

The class system was somewhat lacking, that it took, 14 - 15 hours to "Class up" and the game was about 40 hours of gameplay.

You could "Capture" 6 - 8 different creatures, and for dragons, you could grow them into Red, Blue, Yellow, Green, Black, White Dragons. Pretty cool game, just took forever to do anything.

A friend of mine particularly loved 64, but regular ole Ogre Battle for SNES is one of my first true loves.
