Was just wondering how you were planning on allowing people to level their characters. Is it going to quest based, skill xp, or something totaly different?

While I cant say much, it is suffice to say that you can gain experience through milling, quests, and some, or all, pvp encounters. The exact specifics of character progession hasnt been set in stone, but I can assure you the quest system we are using is rather unique.

Don't expect to be doing alot of fetching for NPCs. :-p

Neuvena says "Hail, Miserable Wretch"
Miserable Wretch says "ah, Neuvena do you have the 2,000 Hellmice tails, 6400 pumice, and 200,000 gargoyle %&$^?"
Neuvena says "yes here they are"
Miserable Wretch "Great choose your reward! you have done me a grand service!"
Neuvena recieves a pet rock.

Redundancy makes for such poor gameplay, never fear your days of fetching mice tails is at an end. =)

Indeed we have a completely different and refreshing system that makes such boring repetitive quests a thing of the past.
As for the actual character progression, we offer several lines of character progression. Although for now we are keeping some of them behind closed doors, a few might be revealed in the new gameplay section. What I can tell you is that the main line of character progression is achieved trough a dynamic and reversible skill based system. This means you "level" or simply gain abillities, by using a skill that relates to that certain abillity, in short, chopping someone up with a sword is likely to increase your strength! ;)

The term reversible, which I have highlighted above simply means that you cannot "screw up" your character. If you decide, after increasing your melee abillities for a few weeks, that you want to use ranged weapons instead, the path to change your character around is as simple as picking up a gun and using that instead of your melee weapon. Then all you have to do is watch your character abillities start going in the desired direction. The exact inner workings of this system are a carefully guarded secret for now, but trust me when I say, there couldn't be a simpler way to choose your path!

This system also means there are no classes! Yes, that's right, all specializations and abillities are accessible by using the skill based advancement system in whichever direction you want your character to take. You can just set off on your path to whichever role you want to play in the game and watch your character change as he/she visibly changes to reflect the skillset that has been attained!

What Loren said above is correct. Skill progression is a much needed thing in current MMOs. While we do not have classes, we have skills of which you can tailor to your own style of play. Eventually, a title will be given to players who complete specific skill-sets. These titles are in reference to the original class system, but not as focused. I feel you will enjoy our new system much more than the previous straight-forward class system.

Technically there are no levels.. but how far your character advances in stats is proportional to how much effort you put into raising your stats. So your general skill in play does determine how your character will progress. How you raise these stats, or even whats stats there are, are unknown to me of course. :-p

How will the pvp system work if there are no levels. Will all be able to attack everyone or how's it working? Is it anything that prevent players with too high stats to attack beginners or is the pvp option just no optional?

Try reading the PVP thread, here (http://www.kaoswar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=308)
I think that may give a good idea of what to expect.

First of all, since i'm new here i want to say simple hello to everyone 8)
Actually i was here for some time already ( stalker o.O ) but this is first time that i feel like i should comment on something.

This system is probably best one for pvp, and for details u should click on his "here" :o. Since this is my first post i'll try to test some forum fuctions too.
PvP System (http://www.kaoswar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=308)

Huh, it was kinda hard, but it worked so it's ok.
Well now i have few questions/ suggestions too , maybe , for devs.

Excuse me, but i must ask if some of u guys played Ryzom maybe? That system is already there for 2 years in their live international version, and it works fantastic if u ask me.

Well, one of possible problems with that systen is while u really can't mess u'r avatar u still can MAX all skills. That means that there could ( and probably will ) be some players with almost everything maxed, which will bring us to unbalance at later stages of game. When u are trying to PvP with people like that u have feeling that they are using god-mod cheat.

I'm not telling that people shouldn't be awarded for putting so much effort and time in training their toons, i would do that by myself if i had enough time to probably, but what am i saying after few months or half year if there are too many "godlike characters" other semi-high or high level persons will start to loose interest. Especially since this game should have some really cool PvP based features.

Of course that i want to make mage that will kill that evil-looking birds with my sword sometimes, and that's great because of all that freedom that is given, but when i run on "Magic-knight-healer" with all his skills maxed i really can't expect too much.

Maybe some thing that will allow u to train all skills, but when u won't be able to max all of them would be nice. Once again, i'm kinda new here and i'm not sure what are u'r toughts about all this and i ask for u'r understanding if u already have something on mind and i missreaded it.

I was thinking about something like ... if u raise u'r sword skill by 10% , u'r magic should drop by 1,2% or 3% so u will still have possibility to raise few skills but maxing them would be almost impossible for 99% of players.
And some other skills could work that way too.

I really think that this game has a lot of potential, fantastic community with devs actually communicating with their "potential players" which is really incredible.

Keep up this good work and sorry for this long post, but it's not from bad intentions obviously.
Best regards.

There are skill point maxes, as well as maximums for a number of different systems in our game.

Specifically, take a look at UO's skill system with maximum of 700 points spread among your abilities. Same general idea.

I'm against the idea of rewarding anyone for years worth of training skills. This will put a focus on skill and character templates.

And for what it's worth, there's a lot more to character building than the simplistic % based skill system. I'd say that's more like 25% of the overall character building, and deals solely with acquisition of a few abilities and your primary skillsets.

Heh, thanks for response.
Well, that about % was only first thing that was on my mind, so i guess that u guys have some better ideas after all 8)

This bout max skill points is great idea, and after :
I'd say that's more like 25% of the overall character building, and deals solely with acquisition of a few abilities and your primary skillsets. i really can't wait to try all this, but after all promises just like this ones in every 2nd MMO i learned that i shouldn't expect too much. I really belive that u can do all that u have in plans and that some greedy publisher won't !$#()$ ages of hard work.
*hopes that $OE will stay far away from this game...forever*

Best wishes and ood luck with u'r future work .
