Interesting paradox. However this is a multi-variable function, in which the variable 'hope' is a correction term, and it could reach a peak and possibly be held constant at some point in time. Then the solution of the function becomes dependent still on other variables (let us assume these other variables are unknown for now, just because I am not allowed tell you what they are.) Hence it is ok to either continue hoping, or stop hoping (although the latter is not desired because hope proportionally affects how accurate the result is.)
