Hello SRI, the Kaos War Dev team and everyone else, first post even though I've been lurking around here for some time :P. First I like to say that this project looks very interesting and has alot of potential to be an awsome MMO, you have my 100% support ;). My question is in regards to character creation... as you prolly already know CoH has one of the more in depth character customization that make it possible to create a unique avatar, also I know that Hero's Journey an upcoming MMO will also have a deep character customization, probably the most in depth character creation seen in a MMO. Alot of MMO's tend to have limited character customization which is one of my main complaints, I don't like seeing my clone often :P. Is there something similar in the works for KW? How deep will the character customization be?

Thanks.

PS. From what I've read about Kaos War it will definitely surpass WoW, I never liked WoW after playing it's beta.. and the last MMO I've played is FFXI which I spent alot of hours in, I've tried other newer MMOs such as EQ2 but none of them got me hooked like FFXI did, so I'm definitely yearning for an awsome MMORPG to get hooked :). I apologize in advance if this question has been answered before but I couldn't find a thread about this.

You can expect to be happy with the character creation process as well as the effects of the journey through Kaos War that will be apparent by your character's appearance. How we will show these effects, I cannot say, but believe me when I tell you that we're cooking up some pretty awesome stuff. As far as character customization goes, we plan on offering players, like yourself, a large amount of different types of gear. There have been talks of changing the colors of your equipment as well. Expect to see alot of different types of "epic" gear that have different uses and apply to different types of players.

My WoW guild is PvP in focus, but it's amazing how much value people put on the look of a new weapon or armour piece from Naxx - including whining at some of the putrid colour combinations. Regardless, most of the items have good artwork, and some of the special effects are nothing short of spectacular. Love or loathe WoW's articistic style, it's a high benchmark.

Noting that an argument for locked gear looks is that it serves as an aid to enemy evaluation in PvP, there are a couple of ways that KW could improve on the WoW gear model. The adding of decorations - spikes, skulls, scratches, rust, motifs, talismans, jewels, fetishes, runes and the like - would add to customisation. Making these decorations the realm of toon crafting would be interesting - particularly if the decorations were/could also be imbued with buffs. A broader option would be to allow players to customise their weapons / armour in a genre or motif style: historic (roman, norse, persian or medieval for example), thematic (flames, ice, shadow, light, nature, death, orc-like, [remember orc guilds in UO?], or any animal theme - lion, snake, buffalo - for example) or others. The look of the item piece would be broadly defined by this choice, modified by the features and effects designed for that particular epic, and added to with decorations.

This could be an option for a guild, giving a broader sense of belonging then just a tabard. You could make specific looks available as a reward for achievement - perhaps unique ones like being the top guild for each race on each server.

In consideration of gear.....I put this forth as a philosphy.

Gear appearance should be independant of gear look.

I should be able to be max level and even though I may have some of the best gear in game, if I want, I should be able to commission some plain looking beginner looking armor.

That way when someone comes to gank my little low level looking self and I pimp slap them from kaos to order and back....they'll know next time to not judge a book by it's cover.

I am very much against players being able to judge their enemies simply by a) clicking on them or b) knowing they have purple armor on...

This will help with keeping ganking from happening and generally tick off the griefers.

this would definitly slow them down. It would be interesting.

Possibly not, however I'd like to think that from the view of equality within the game (as mentioned in other threads) lowbies could have a chance of taking down a high level toon.
Maybe there will be a system in the game where you can target/attempt to hit specific body locations ie your armour may not cover your head thereby making it a prime target (all be it with some to hit modifiers) for would be assasins or whatever.

Perfect World has a pretty cool character customization when focusing on the character's physical appearance. Though I think it is a bit too lose of a system. You can make your human character looks like an alien, or a stick figured blob lol. I think having limitations is good, as we know each race will have their own specific traits to being with (which is fantastic and I can't wait to see it all).

Will stats be given at character creation??...Or once we get into the game? Will the stats be applied by the armor chosen in the creation process?, as said before the armor will be assigned to the player's in-game build.

I think being able to put Spikes, Tattoes, Peircings, would be a fun Chara Creation. Having many different Eye Colors would be cool to. I hate not being able to change the Eye Color, what if everyone in the world doesn't want brown or black?

i hope there will be a large selection of armor sets as it kinda sucks
when a game has 1 good armor that all the max level players wear.

a clothing system would be nice :)

if anyone has ever played anarchy online i would like this game to
avoid the "attrox-thong" craze =)

Armor is a very mysterious thing as of now. I would love to know more about it in this game. It sounds pretty cool, and unique, so far.

I play PW and I have to totally agree with the fact that PW has a very loose system and some of the characters can be taken to the extreme. Seeing a stick figure with a ballon head just loses the realism factor for me especially if you role play. I think char custimization needs to have it's limits just for the realism fact. But I don't like clones either, so there needs to be a happy medium lol.

Reading about some of the armor ideas I am really excited about seeing them in game. The idea of having a living armor that grows and changes as you lvl sounds really awesome and I like the idea of being able to dye them or even add things like spikes or tatoos. I hope they add that to the game. I really like the dye sysem they have in GW. Be able to mix them to get unique colors is great.

A good customization MMO right now is Aion. It has very vast combination of creating your character. This way no two chars are alike. This would be cool in Kaos.

I'd love to see decent customization. I mean I doubt I'm going to be hanging from you guys giving us same colored armor to look like clones but customization will make us all unique. Ugh I'm starting to rant. Anyways. I can't wait.

welcome ;)

from the cryptic remarks the dev team have made so far, your in luck. Armour can have different colours, and the armour evolves with the user.

I have played many mmorpgs, and one that fascinated me was Perfect World...

I loved how creating your character not that they really mattered, but you could REALLY get detailed... you could raise the eyebrows... color them, pick a type, move your mouth up or down... fix your nose... their were so many things you can do just for each part of your avatar.. it wasn't 10 things of hair color, 5 different hair styles.. you could get in the nitty gritty.

Personally I liked how you could pick up another person and run with them as well, not to mention even fly with them..

I heard someone mention Cabal earlier.. I liked how the animations and skills were in that game... although it didn't keep me very long, and most games don't I thought it was a very good game, as well as Perfect World. Animations truly help game-play.

Another cool feature from a game called Requiem that I thought was pretty interesting and I believe Age of Conan also did this but sadly my computer couldn't play the game after I bought Age of Conan, was when you kill something, the head would fly off, or body would be chopped up.. That is always a good add in to any game..

Personally what I want to see is Animation, if their is jumping, the ability to jump over things... Maybe flying. I am deeply in love with Jokers / Jesters and think it would be cool to have weird abilities maybe even just for show.. Stealth is good.. Think of many skills that most games don't have, or fun things that the players can do like Emotions or such... some people play games to just talk to people after they get bored of actually leveling.

Maybe a "love" system... Oh.. and Pets... I love pets lmao.. if I can think of anything else I will let you know.

Rappelz and Shin Megami Tensai have some amazing pet systems.
Lots of variety in what kind of creature you may want.
Mythological creatures to a small little Bunny Rabbit. (OF MASS DESTRUCTION!!)
