View Full Version : Just some brainstorms I had.

Please note; I'm not really making suggestions to the KW team, because I know they have a set idea of what they want, but if any part of what I thought about may be applicable to the game, then it would be great to see it implemented in there. Also note that I have never really played an MMO like Guildwars or WoW (I want guild wars though)

Anyways; I was brainstorming a few months back about a "fake game project" that I could do some concept wok for. After a while I figured I'd try to do an MMO, and try to figure out how to make it original(Using both visual styles and gameplay systems.)

Note also that I am NOT a coder, and have never delved in it, this is more of a fantasy, so I'm not sure if it can even be done;
But the Idea I came up with was a MMOS/RPG, A MMO-Sandbox/RPG. The concept? A HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE HUUUUUUGE WORLD, like our own. There would be a few key cities and cultures, and maybe 1 or 2 different (but realistic) races ( ex: No Orcs, no elves, no druids, etc.). You would start off in one of these key cities, based on what culture you chose. You would be able to get some work, labor, cooking, whatever. You'd be able to make money and kinda brush up your strength. Also sort of an online-minigame oppritunity here! =P
Anyways, I imagined it to be a really cinematic experience, where everything stayed the same size (no world maps with tiny cities). Instead of hack and slash type gameplay (I have seen some of those WoW vids and it just looks like the most boring thing in the world to me. Give me FF7 anyday.), where you just SWING AND SWING AND SWING AND SWING- maybe something more fun. Have it switchable between First person and 3rd person, with normal, small battles being alot like Z: Ocarina of time- more action packed, y'know?
And of couse, everyone likes magic attacks. So I figured there could be up to 10 or so different elements (10 at most), and each element of magic would be assignable to a number 0-9. When you hit a number, it would bring up a list of magic that you have so far of that element, (Alot like using hotkey radio in Counterstrike or call of Duty).
There are some other ideas with the magic attacks that are hard to explain- a targeting system I thought about, things like that... say you had an attack/magic where you shoot multiple, fireballs for instance. You would click and drag a circle where you wanted to shoot (doing this many times rapidly would at least add some random element of fun into the battling), and say the smaller the circle the faster the attack moved, and the wider the circle, the slower the attack moved. (Naturally slower attacks=more power, so you kinda have to give a little to get a little, right?)
One of my favorite thoughts is a military type of battle system. Say a King/Mayor/whatever wants to hire you to fight a battle against an opposing force, or defend and objective against an opposing force (Be it other players or AI)- One of the Human(noncomputer) players assigned would be a tactician, who would have sort of an RTS view of the place (With a movable camera maybe? Think spectator mode in CSS, where you click to change what person you view, or hit spacebar to change between camera types on each player?) -
Anyways, the Tactician assigns an objective by making a ring on a map, and typing in an input feild something like "Captr tha flag lol!!!" (or just whatever message.) The circle would be green, and visible to the players on the field (Sorta like in Crazy Taxi, remember?), and the message the tactician typed would appear above it. He could also indicate several objectives like "Take out this archer tower". Anyways, the people on the field would just be doing pretty normal battle things- Archers could camp, your tactician could set up an ambush, etc.
In the end, the experience and money you get is determined by how well you followed your objective during the battle (which would give incentive not to screw up.)
I am not sure exactly how that would work, but I always thought of it sort of like a Counter-Strike match. (can you tell I like Counterstrike? =P) only with the "battle map" to be sort of a seperate thing from the world map so other players wouldn't interfere.

I just always love thinking of seeing horse-mounted soldiers charging into a valley, with arches popping out from behind a hill, and a whole heroic battle thing going on- I am a teamwork fan =P

Anyways, yeah. I didn't really think this too far through, but I figure I might as well say it in case it's worth anything.

Well just to put my input in and kind of piggy back on what the op said what would be really cool is a prof. that would alow you to be hired as a mercanary or bounty hunter what ever you want to call it not by npc's but by actuall players that want to take another player out for some reason.

And maybe even if you had a guild of mercenaries maybe you're guild could be hired to war with another opposing faction or something like a special forces team for hire...I know in many MMO's I have played there is a kind of player thing maybe call it an underground thing were if you know the right people they will hire you or the guild to take revenge for them and payment upon a fraps for it although it can be exploited quite easilly it might be something to kind of look at.

I know if I saw a commercial for an MMO that advertised you can place yourself as a mercanary for hire and take out other players rivals It would really gain my attention.
