I'm sure you've already considered this, but I would love to see damage taken increased or decreased depending on where you're hitting from. e.g.: back attack = higher crit + damage, front attack = lower crit/damage, side somewhere in the middle.

It never did make sense to me when I'm wailing on a guy and doing the same damage as someone else in another position.

Just a thought. :)

I'm not too sure what the plans are in this area but the focus is to make it more skills based so that the lowest level players will have a chance against the highest (albeit a very small chance :) ).

This is a nice idea and hopefully one of our desginers will be able to tell you about their thoughts on it and whether its already been included. The design document is hhuuugggeee!!! So I don't get much chance to read it which is a shame. /me snears and tugs shackles attatched to dungeon wall

Thanks for the post :)

What about if you hit the enemy in their leg or sword arm? Do they become crippled for a certain amount of time due to where they get hit? If there was a sword-user running at you while you had your gun and you shot him in the leg would he fall/be slowed down?

In EQ1 I loved the fact when you were low on health you ran at a crawl. I used to hate when skeletons were hitting me on the head laughing, but hindsight it actually added to the experience of combat. eeeheeheheeee

What we might be incorporating is a type of states of damage. None, Light, Medium, Serious, Crippled, Incapacitated. I am a huge fan of Pain Skins a feature we are looking into as well.

It is important to remember that any feature like this has to work flawlessly when you have upwards of a hundred people on screen, being rendered, being animated, network packets flying, particles going off, and all the other normal gameplay stuff. The more technical the feature, the greater the chance that it will cause problems. Part of working on design and whatnot is to figure out a delicate balance between fun features and things that won't cause slowdown, crashes etc...

So, specifically, for multiple facings, I can't say. There have already been MMOs that incorporated stuff like this. We'll just have to wait and see how things pan out.
