I'm enjoying the show. Good luck to everyone there.
A question: Is the show being done 'real-time' (as in, do the events more or less portray the current situation) or has all the filming been done, the outcome is known, and it's just being released piecemeal?

Hey Tuebit Welcome to the Kaos Legions! I mean Community :)
Creating Kaos is in piecemeal abit. But all the events are real. Nothing is Staged. GamePro and Games.net are with us every step of the way. They film us a lot. They are so good sometimes we forget they are even filming. It is like embedded journalists with soldiers.
We get so see some of the episodes ahead of time, and they are getting awesome. These first few are only scratching the surface of us and Kaos War.

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that it was staged.
Essentially, I was asking how far in the past are the episodes. Was E3 a month ago, 2 months ago, last week?
I'll certainly be following your story (and looking forward to your game).

It's an interesting documentary series, but I don't get why you're killing yourself to do this project. If you really want to make an MMO, then assess how much time you can devote to it based on what you think you can live on working part-time. Then plan what you're going to do with your time out of work and set milestones based on that. You also have to understand that you're not going to do your best work when you're not eating well. So stop eating that crap. It all seems very extreme, which is why people are assuming it's staged; it's all completely unnecessary.
I don't see the point of quitting work, when the logical outcome is that you'll eventually become homeless. Sure, the dream of some generous benefactor swooping is great, but you have to save yourself, chap. Keep plugging away at the dream, but you have to be alive to enjoy the prize.
Cheers,

The episodes are initially a bit behind. I believe ep 3 took place something like 3 weeks ago. They're getting closer to "real time", but at a certian point production becomes necessary. There's a ton of footage and they have to narrow it down, edit it, and make it compelling. The videos would be pretty boring if they were 5 minutes of Damon sitting at his computer talking to people.
Damon: How about green? Can you make that green, it seems like it should be green.
[2 minutes pass]
Someone: It's on the ftp.
[20 seconds pass]
Damon: Holy shit, that's green alright. But what about this part over here in the corner? Is that a puppy?
Someone: No.
[30 second pass]
Damon: Oh, ok. Damn, I need a Mountain Dew. Be right back guys...
[5 minutes later]
Damon: Back
Yeah, not very compelling web video there.

Sort of a modern take on the Truman show. Streaming video, 24/7 from Damon's apartment. You never know ... it might just take off.

That's hilarious. lol
My Ventrilo setup does not always work correctly (hardly ever), so I use IM a ton. Watching IM logs scroll would be the most torturous thing for episode watchers. lol

You hit very nicely on one of the major struggles for all of us here at SRI. In order to create the game we must devote ourselves full-time. In order to devote ourselves full-time we need funding. In order to get funding you must have proof of concept. In order to create proof of concept, well, you have to devote yourself full-time. Its quite the viscous circle and all of us in the company are dealing with it in our own ways while devoting as much time as we can to the project. Some of us have quit our jobs, some of us took really bad low paying jobs just to be able to devote ourselves to SRI, and as you saw in video 3, some quit SRI for their own reasons. The fact is that Damon has to devote all his time because he is the bottle of glue holding the company together at the moment. Sure he might not eat too well, but don't worry I bug him a lot about eating right and eventually he eats.
Also, understand that for the past year Damon did have a part-time job, and a couple months ago that ended and now all effort is put into the company. While I agree about some things being unnecessary, this is how they currently are, and until we achieve the next big milestone, it will likely continue to be a struggle for a little while. We have achieved many miletones already, and are quite close to the next one, so don't worry, things are happening and progress is continuous. This is the life of the independent developer, and the life of any business entrepreneur: take risks, solidify your plan, work towards building the product, and find ways to survive while doing so. We appreciate everyones concern, and seeing the support of the community helps to keep us going and working.
